Direct answer
What is a website redesign?
A website redesign is a fundamental rebuild of an existing website: design, technology, structure or all of them. The biggest risk is not the design, it is losing visibility. If URLs change and nobody redirects them, rankings built up over years disappear. That is why a redesign with us starts with an inventory, not with a mockup.
BAROIAN is a website redesign agency in Berlin. It rebuilds existing websites and protects rankings with URL mapping and 301 redirects. The company was founded in 2016.
Straight answers
Do you really need a redesign?
Not every problem calls for a rebuild. A targeted fix is often enough. We tell you that openly, even if it makes the project smaller.
| Your situation | Our recommendation |
|---|---|
| The website is slow, but the system is current | Optimize instead of rebuilding |
| Content is weak, technology is fine | Rewrite the content, no redesign needed |
| The system no longer gets updates | Redesign |
| The website works poorly on phones | Redesign |
| Your offer or your brand has changed | Redesign |
| Rankings suddenly dropped | Find the cause first, then decide |
Protecting rankings
How does a website redesign agency protect your rankings?
The tool is called URL mapping. We record every old URL and assign the right new one. Then we set up 301 redirects. Visitors, Google and old links all reach the right place automatically.
We follow the Google guide to site moves: every URL leads directly to its final target, with no chains. Old subpages land on the matching new page, not on the homepage. Redirects stay active for at least 1 year, and the new sitemap goes to Search Console right away.
We did exactly that in our own 2026 redesign: old URLs such as /agentur/ lead straight to the new target page with a 301.
Typical mistakes
Which mistakes cost rankings in a redesign?
We see these 6 mistakes again and again. All of them can be avoided.
Old URLs without redirects
The most expensive mistake. Visitors hit an error page and the value of old links is lost. What goes missing is often not the main pages, but PDFs, images and old subpages that other websites link to.
A forgotten block
The test environment was closed to Google, and that block goes live with the launch. The website drops out of the index.
Shortened content
A leaner design cuts content, and the rankings go with it.
Everything to the homepage
Google often treats blanket redirects like missing pages.
Forgotten internal links
Menus and text keep pointing to old URLs and create needless detours.
No post-launch checks
The most important phase starts after launch. We check error pages, indexing and rankings until things are stable.

FAQ
Common questions for a website redesign agency
Will I lose my rankings in a redesign?
Not if the move is planned properly. Temporary fluctuation is normal, though. Google says it can take a few weeks or more for new URLs to appear on medium-sized sites. Nobody can guarantee the outcome, but a clean plan lowers the risk considerably.
How long should 301 redirects stay in place?
Google generally recommends at least 1 year. We advise keeping them much longer. They cost almost nothing and preserve the value of old links.
Does the website have to go offline during the rebuild?
No. We build the new website in a test environment that is closed to search engines. Your old site keeps running until the switch.
Can I keep my old content?
Yes, and that is often wise. Pages with rankings and backlinks usually stay in substance, and we improve them where it counts. Otherwise you lose what Google knows you for today.
When is the best time for a redesign?
Outside your main season. A moving company should not switch in summer, and a jeweler should not switch before the holidays. Also plan time for post-launch checks.
What does a website redesign cost?
That depends on the number of pages, the content and the technology. After the free audit, you get a fixed-price offer that includes the post-launch checks.
